When there is a performance during the nine weeks, the following categories will be used to determine their grade:

• 35% - Tests: There will be written and playing tests throughout the year.  These will occur at the end of bigger units.

• 25% - Quizzes: These will occur a little more often to check in on daily practicing.  Middle School students need to be practicing at least 100 minutes each week - 20 minutes per day.  High School students need to be practicing at least 150 minutes per week - 30 minutes per day.

• 25% - Performances: Students are required to be present and on time for all concerts. The only excused absences are death in the family or extreme illness.

• 15% - Participation and Preparation: Each student must have their instrument and the required supplies every day. If their instrument is in the shop, I must have a note from a parent.  Please allow me to check out the instrument before taking it to the shop.  I can often fix small problems at no charge.

 

When there is not a performance during the grading period, the following categories will be used:

• 50% - Tests

• 30% - Quizzes

• 20% - Participation and Preparation
